Understanding gas appliances and regulations

The importance of compliance with gas regulations

Poorly installed or badly maintained gas appliances pose a significant threat to the health and safety of residents. Landlords have a legal responsibility to ensure their properties comply with the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998.

Course content

This course will help candidates understand the nature of the risks created by ill maintained equipment and the actions landlords must undertake to comply with their legal duties. In particular candidates will learn about:

  • Annual checks required on pipework, flues and appliances
  • Records that must be kept to ensure landlords compliance
  • Risks posed by carbon monoxide
  • The need for adequate ventilation
  • Different types of appliances and flues

Candidates may also, in the course of their work, come across hazardous situations and the course will also cover the steps to be taken should this arise.

The penalties of non-compliance with the regulations are severe. If you and your staff manage properties on behalf of landlords then attendance on this course is strongly advised.

Who is it for?

This course would benefit anyone who manages properties in housing associations or the private rented sector like housing officers, lettings agents, estate agents, surveyors; and people carrying out inspections of occupied or vacant premises or instructing repairs with contractors.
