Understanding housing law
The aim of this course is to give staff at housing associations or council housing departments a good understanding of the law that governs the sector.
It teaches participants about the legal framework in which social landlords operate. This enables them to review working practices and if necessary adapt or update them to ensure they are compliant with the regulations.
The knowledge gained provides candidates with the confidence required to respond to enquiries from tenants and contractors.
How knowing the legal basics can benefit housing staff
Candidates gain a solid up-to-date knowledge of housing law and the responsibilities placed on landlords to ensure their properties comply with current legislation. The course uses examples of case law to examine how regular activities comply with legal requirements including:
Delivery of core services including maintenance and repairs
Rights and responsibilities of landlords
Rights and responsibilities of tenants
The range of tenancies available
The degree of security each tenancy provides for tenants
The course helps housing staff identify and implement good practice procedures and as such, reduces the risk of legal action from tenants. If you or a member of your staff are involved in the management and repair of tenanted residential properties this one day course is an essential guide to the key legislation that governs this area.
Who is it for?
This course benefits those who manage maintenance and repairs services for housing associations, local authorities, residential letting agencies or contractors.
